Someone Like You

It was a week ago when I went to the show/ carnival. Even though it’s the exact same thing every year, there’s always something about it that makes me hyped up for it. Perhaps it’s the feeling where you know you’re going to have a very fun time with your friends, eating carnival food, going on rides and walking around, absorbing the crowded, and noisy atmosphere.
I walked past this little patisserie store outside in the morning and I thought it was the cutest idea ever. Even the name of the little stall was cute. It had a very vintage feel to it and I wish there were more stalls like this around the city... For anyone who was wondering where this was, it was on Leigh Street.
Today, I served a customer whose face was rather familiar as I remembered that I had served her before. I provided the old lady with what she wanted and then I said to her, “Thankyou, I hope you have a lovely weekend.”
To this she responded with a sigh, “I’m not sure about that... I’m going to get surgery this week because I have cancer on my nose.”
With such a sudden confession, I was stunned and did not know how to respond. To end our vague conversation, I wished her good luck with the surgery.
Then she glanced at me for a quick moment before leaving and said, "Good luck... What you had just said was the nicest thing anybody has said to me prior to this surgery..." Then she left.
Even though it was such a short conversation with a stranger, I had so much sympathy for her, and even now, it's still on my mind. Sometimes these moments have a huge impact on me.

From Scratch patisserie is the BEST! It's in my top 3 for coffee in Adelaide. (Number one is Coffee Branch, number two is Signature.) I wish they had a real store though.
